Childbirth can cause changes to the body. The breasts and the belly often take the biggest hits. Even after shedding pregnancy weight, your post-pregnancy shape may be different. The breasts often drop or change size and shape. The belly gets stretched and the skin and muscle become loose. Diet and exercise can help, but sometimes more is needed.
The combination of breast enhancement and belly enhancement is requested often enough that is has been given the nickname, Mommy Makeover. The most frequent combination is Breast Augmentation with a Tummy Tuck, but the procedures can be modified to provide each Mommy the individual enhancement she desires. Gynecomastia is a condition caused by enlargement of the breast tissue in a man's chest. The presentation can range from a small growth causing a solitary, firm lump beneath the nipple (puffy nipples) to wide spread enlargement of the chest creating feminine appearing breasts. Gynecomastia is a seldom-discussed but surprisingly common problem, and can effect anyone. Even active men who eat well and exercise regularly may not be able to eliminate these deposits. Men with gynecomastia often feel a deep sense of shame and embarrassment from the shape or size of their chest, and may avoid removing their shirt in public and even more intimate settings.
Gynecomastia, however, is easily treatable with male breast reduction. By means of discreet incisions made in the underarm, around areola or under the chest, San Francisco Gynecomastia surgeon Dr. Mele can surgically remove excess fat and glandular breast tissue from the chest. A more masculine looking physique can be achieved either with gynecomastia reduction surgery or liposuction.

Breast Reconstruction covers a wide range of reconstructive breast procedures. It encompasses breast mound reconstruction, nipple reconstruction and areola reconstruction. Most commonly thought of after a mastectomy for breast cancer, the techniques of breast reconstruction are applicable to both congenital and acquired breast deformities. They can be used to completely reconstruct a missing breast, or to reshape and restore a misshapen breast. For more information please visit our Breast Reconstruction page.
Inverted Nipples, occur when the ducts between the breast tissue and the nipple are short. When tight, the short ducts do not allow the nipple to protrude, and sometimes do not allow the nipple to be seen at all. When less tight, the nipple may be inverted at rest, but can become erect and everted when stimulated.
Inverted nipples are not usually dangerous, but can cause problems with self-confidence and breast feeding. By rearranging the local tissue, Dr. Mele can construct an outward facing nipple, and reverse the inversion. Whenever possible, an attempt is made to preserve the milk ducts; however, any procedure to correct inverted nipples may interfere with future breast feeding. For more detailed information about how inverted nipple correction can help you, visit our Inverted Nipple Correction page, or contact our San Francisco Bay Area Cosmetic Surgery office in Walnut Creek, to schedule your personal and private consultation appointment.
Cosmetic plastic surgery is all about paying attention to ratios. When the areolae are too big for the breast, the result can be unattractive and a source of insecurity. Disproportionately large areolae affect both women and men. They may be an inherited trait or the result of stretching from pregnancy, heavy breasts or weight gain. Areola Reduction, a simple procedure during which Dr. Mele removes the superficial layer of pigmented skin along the outer edge of the areola. Areola reduction can often be performed in one short procedure, under local anesthesia. To find out more visit our Areola Reduction page.
Large nipples can be a source of concern for both women and men. Larger nipples may require special accommodations, even in normal clothing. Often large nipples are inherited. Sometimes the nipples continue to enlarge throughout puberty and pregnancy. Nipple Reduction, is a short procedure, normally performed in the office under local anesthesia, during which the nipple is carefully reduced in width, length or both to better match the breast.
