  • Types of breast implants used are:

    • Silicone Breast Implants: A solid silicone shell encases a viscous jelly solid form of silicone; it is not a liquid or thin gel material, but firm, like natural breast tissue. These come prefilled in varying sizes and shapes.
    • Saline Breast Implants: Consists of a silicone outer shell that is filled with saline during the implant surgery. The volume of each implant can be adjusted during surgery. Since saline breast implants are inserted empty, a smaller incision is utilized.
  • Types of incisions. The first two are the most versitile and hidden by clothing. The last two restrict access to the operative field and may not be sufficient for breast implant revision surgery:

    • Periareolar Incision: made along the edge of the areola (the pigmented skin surrounding the nipple)
    • Inframammary Fold Incision (IMF Incision): made in or just above the natural fold found under the breasts
    • Axillary Incisionmade in the armpit
    • Transumbilcal Incision (Unmbilical Incision)made along the edge of the belly button
